Sacrament of Marriage

“For Better & For Ever”
This Program is commonly known as the “Engaged Sponsor Couple
Program”. A Program which helps engaged couples prepare for
marriage. The engaged couple is matched with a
married sponsor couple. The married couple will contact the
engaged couple, usually the bride, to schedule the first meeting.
There will usually be five two-hour meetings in the home of the married
couple.
Many aspects of marriage will be discussed while working through the
chapters of “For Better & For Ever”. This is a resource for
couples preparing for marriage written by Father Robert Ruhnke, C.SS.R,
D. Min.
The scheduled chapters for each meeting are:
o Evening One Chapters 2 & 3.
o Evening Two Chapters 4 & 5.
o Evening Three Chapters 7, 8,
& 9.
o Evening Four Chapters 10, 11,
& 12.
o Evening Five Chapters 14, 15, 16,
17, & 18.
Occasionally, they couples may agree to have six meeting to split the
Chapters scheduled for Evening Five. When the meetings are
complete, the engaged couple may discuss Chapters 19 & 21 with the
Priest or Deacon witnessing the marriage.
Often, a very special bond develops between the couples. The
married couples share their blessings, trials and challenges with the
couple preparing for marriage. An understanding of trust and
confidentiality truly helps both couples to deepen their relationship
with their spouse as well as with each other.
After the request for a Sponsor Couple is made, it may take several
weeks to match the engaged couple with a married couple. We ask
that Sponsor Couples contact the engaged couples as soon as possible
and we ask the engaged couples to be patient.
